Accessibility

The Sound Cinema project has accessibility at its core, and in developing this VOD platform we have done our best to make it usable by all people, whatever their abilities or disabilities. The best way to contact us with comments or feedback on our accessibility features is at our email address hello@mysoundcinema.com.

Accessibility features

  • All the films on My Sound Cinema feature audio description. This comes on as a default for each film and cannot be turned off.
  • The use of the Braille Institute’s Atkinson Hyperlegible typeface for body copy throughout the website.
  • Large size fonts and wide spacing between lines.
  • Colours of logo, text and background consistent with WCAG 2.1 level AA (contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text).
  • Clearly organised pages, easy to navigate using a screen reader.
  • Using semantic HTML code to structure the pages to facilitate the above.

The concept and construction of the Sound Cinema is led by a steering group of visually impaired consultants. Its various functionalities are currently under the scrutiny of visually impaired user testers as well as representatives and experts of different accessibility requirements, and we are working on improving the website and implementing the feedback of its core target audience on an ongoing basis.
